Hi, hello, good AM!
I love a lot of things in this life. Two of them are Taylor Swift and the late August afternoon sun.
In Swift’s song “Forever Winter (Taylor’s Version),” she compares a man's mental health and substance struggles to the wintertime and then offers herself to be his “summer sun,” a light source in the darkness.
Naturally, when it came time to name my private medical practice, I took inspiration from both, naming it Summer Sun Integrative.
Healthcare in America is broken. 15-minute appointments serve absolutely no one, insurance often dictates the type of care folks receive, and stark white walls and paper gowns aren’t conducive to healing.
I became a naturopathic doctor to walk alongside patients in their healing- to be a light source in what can often feel like the darkness of physical, emotional, or mental pain and anguish. My belief and goal in all of my work is that our bodies, minds, and lives can look and feel as good as the late afternoon summer sun.
This newsletter, Sunny Wellness, is an extension of that vision. Inside, you’ll find reflections, insight, and data on naturopathic medicine, wellness, culture, and what it means to be human- so that you might be one step closer to feeling like the warm summer sun on the inside and out.
I hope you’ll join me.

What is naturopathic medicine?
You can listen to me talk about naturopathic medicine on the Healing Thru Holistic Podcast here!
Naturopathic medicine is a practice of medicine that combines the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science. It emphasizes six main principles: prevention, identifying and treating the root cause of illness, harnessing the healing power of nature, treating the whole person rather than a collection of symptoms, providing education about health, and doing no harm.
Licensed naturopathic doctors attend accredited rigorous post-graduate medical schools and train as evidence-based primary care providers to effectively diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses. We complete outpatient clinic shifts in both academic and community medical centers and take two sets of board exams to prove competency, efficacy, and safety in the areas of pathology, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, immunology, botanical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, minor surgery, pharmacology, physical manipulation, homeopathy, counseling, intravenous and injection therapies, and nutrition.
